Today is the first day of spring training, which is a major holiday for baseball fans, second only to Opening Day. The first day of spring training is a glimmer of hope in the middle of a long, cold winter. I’ve written a poem to commemorate the first day of spring training. It has a tune, and I tried to record a video but the cameraman (my son) wasn’t helping by laughing while he was recording and my voice was cracking for some reason. So I decided just to post it as a poem instead.
Ode to Spring Training
Cardinals fans cheer! The day’s finally here,
We’ve waited for all winter long,
It’s time to rejoice, so lift up your voice,
And come and join me in this song!
Pitchers and catchers report,
Pitchers and catchers report,
Four words that say spring’s on its way,
Pitchers and catchers report!
The winter’s been long and dreary,
With snow and cold galore,
And although our hearts were weary,
They’re not that way anymore!
Because today –
Pitchers and catchers report,
Pitchers and catchers report,
Four words that say spring’s on its way,
Pitchers and catchers report!
I don’t know why the poem is double spaced. I can’t get it to single space, even though I copied from Word. Sorry about that! Thanks for reading! Have a great day!
